The Data Binding panel is where you connect your visualizations to the data that drives them. It is available on the right-hand side of the dashboard designer and acts as the bridge between your dataset or data source and the charts, KPIs, or other blocks you place on the canvas. You can use the Data binding panel to add one or more datasets and data models and bind them to the dashboard if the dashboard is selected or bind dataset fields or measure to scenario elements when a specific scenario is selected.
As soon as you open a new dashboard, the Data Binding tab is open by default. You can also click on an empty area of the canvas or click the Dashboard tab in the toolbar and click Document Settings to open the side panel and switch to the Data Binding tab:
Click + Add to select a dataset or data source.
The Choose Data window appears, showing the datasets and data models available to you.
Select the datasets or data models you want to use in the dashboard and click OK.
You can also search by name in this window to quickly find what you need.
Once selected, the fields (columns) from your dataset appear in the Data Binding tab as data attributes. These represent the building blocks—such as dimensions, measures, and hierarchies—that can be bound to visualizations.
When you add a scenario to the canvas, the dataset you selected is automatically available in the Data Binding tab.
Each visualization type provides binding slots (for example:Category, Series, Values, Rows, Columns) depending on what the chart requires.
To populate a chart, simply drag and drop data attributes from the dataset into the binding slots.
As soon as you place an attribute into a slot, the chart updates in real time. This live preview lets you experiment with different configurations until your visualization tells the story you want.
Once your visualization is added to the dashboard and its data attributes are bound to the appropriate data binding slots, additional options become available for refining how those attributes behave. You can adjust formatting, apply transformations, or modify how the data is interpreted within the visualization. These actions give you more control over the final output without requiring changes to the underlying dataset. To explore the full set of available options, see the Data Attributes article.
Dashboards, by default, need to be manually refreshed to fetched up-to-date data from datasets or data model. You can also set specific datasets or data model to refresh automatically.
Datasets and data models can have different setting for Auto Refresh. In the Data binding panel, select the dataset or data model you want to refresh automatically and click the gear icon on the Data Binding panel. The Auto Refresh Setting dialog box appears. Change the Auto Refresh setting from None which is means it requires manual refresh to either:
Poll: choose an interval for polling.

Realtime: choose this to update the dashboard for every change in the dataset or data model.
