Customize Charts

Charts in Wyn Notebooks are highly configurable through the Inspector Panel. Each chart block exposes a consistent set of property groups that control how data is visualized, labeled, styled, and interacted with. While not every property applies to every chart type, the overall customization model remains consistent across visualizations.

This section provides an overview of the available chart customization properties, explains what each group controls, and indicates which chart types support them.

Chart Customization Properties

Data Visualization

Controls how categorical values and dimensions are grouped, displayed, and handled when data is incomplete.

Applies to:

Most category-based charts, including Column, Bar, Line, Area, Combined, Pie, Donut, Funnel, Treemap, Scatter, and Bubble charts.

Title

Defines the scenario title shown above the chart. Titles are auto-generated from data bindings but can be hidden or fully customized in alignment, font, and spacing.

Applies to:

All chart types.

Data Labels

Displays values, categories, series names, or percentages directly on the chart. Data labels reduce reliance on axes and legends and improve readability.

Applies to:

All chart types, with specialized behavior for Pie and Donut charts.

Tooltip

Controls interactive hover information shown for data points or categories. Tooltips can display bound fields, additional measures, and visual tracking aids.

Applies to:

All interactive chart types.

Axis (Category) / X-Axis

Controls the primary categorical axis used to group data horizontally or vertically.

Applies to:

Charts that use a category axis, including Column, Bar, Line, Area, Combined, Scatter, and Bubble charts.

Value Axis / Y-Axis

Controls how numeric values are scaled, formatted, and displayed.

Applies to:

Charts that use a value axis, including Column, Bar, Line, Area, Combined, Scatter, and Bubble charts.

Legend

Identifies data groupings—typically through color—and enables interaction with grouped or series-based charts.

Applies to:

Charts with a secondary grouping or series, including Column, Bar, Line, Area, Combined, Scatter, Bubble, Pie, and Funnel charts.

(Not available for Treemap charts.)

Series

Displays cumulative totals as a background reference in grouped charts, allowing users to compare overall magnitude while preserving individual data points.

Applies to:

Column Chart, Stacked Column Chart, Bar Chart, and Stacked Bar Chart only.

Trellis

Splits a single visualization into multiple small charts based on a secondary grouping, arranged in rows or columns for comparison.

Applies to:

Most Cartesian charts that support secondary groupings, including Column, Bar, Line, Area, and Combined charts.

Special Data

Controls how null and blank values are displayed in the visualization without altering the underlying data.

Applies to:

All chart types.

No Data Content

Defines what users see when a chart has no bound data, including custom messages, alignment, fonts, and background images.

Applies to:

All chart types.

Appearance

Controls the visual styling of the scenario container, including background color, spacing, borders, shadows, and background images.

Applies to:

All chart types and all scenarios.

Summary

Chart customization in Wyn Notebooks is designed to be both powerful and consistent. While each chart type has unique behaviors, they share a common customization framework through the Inspector Panel. This allows you to move between chart types confidently, knowing where to adjust structure, labels, interaction, and styling.
