Column EChart

Column ECharts are powerful visualization tools that help you compare data across categories with clarity and precision. Whether you're analyzing sales, tracking KPIs, or spotting trends, Column ECharts provide an interactive, customizable way to explore your data.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to create a Column EChart in a dashboard

  • How to bind data fields to the chart

  • How to format, analyze, and filter data

  • How to customize the appearance of your chart

1. Create a Column EChart

  1. Go to the Resource or Document Portal.

  2. Click + Create and select Create Dashboard.

  3. Choose a Blank Dashboard or a template.

  4. In the Custom Visualization tab, drag and drop Column Chart (ECharts) onto the design area.

2. Bind Data to the Chart

  1. In the Data Binding panel, choose a dataset.

  2. Drag fields into the following containers:

    • Values – Numeric values you want to measure

    • Axis (Category) – The group or category (e.g., months, regions)

    • Legend (Series) – Series to compare (e.g., product lines)

    • Tooltip – Extra fields that appear on hover

Optional: Use the Drill Down dropdown to enable detailed exploration. You can choose from Default, Pre-set Targets, or Pre-set Path modes.

3. Format and Analyze Data

Click the gear icon next to a data field to:

  • Aggregate data (e.g., sum, average, count)

  • Apply Quick Functions for advanced metrics (rank, running total, etc.)

  • Filter data to show only relevant information

  • Rename fields for clarity

  • Remove unwanted fields

Use the Action Bar (above the chart) to:

  • Sort or filter the chart visually

  • Add reference lines for benchmarks

  • Change data bindings on the fly

  • Apply conditional visualization rules to highlight trends

4. Customize Chart Appearance

Open the Inspector Panel to personalize your chart:

  • Style & Color

    • Change chart type (bar, stacked, etc.)

    • Use custom colors or default palettes

    • Adjust opacity and corner radius

    • Add color gradients or highlight high/low values

  • Animation

    • Choose entrance animations and set timing delays

  • Data Labels

    • Turn labels on/off, choose layout (inside/outside), and customize fonts

    • Use patterns like “Category, Series (Value)”

  • Axes

    • Customize both X (Category) and Y (Value) axes:

      • Show/hide axis lines, tick marks, grid lines, and titles

      • Set axis position, scale, intervals, and label format

      • Add split areas or control label overflow

  • Zoom & Interaction

    • Enable zoom axes for large datasets

    • Use tooltips and carousel mode to highlight individual values

Advanced Customization (Optional)

For more control, use:

  • Custom ECharts Option: Add JavaScript for advanced chart configurations

  • Custom Behavior: Use JavaScript (e.g., setTimeout, myChart) for real-time updates and interactivity

Best Practices

  • Limit categories to improve readability

  • Use tooltips and drill-downs for layered insights

  • Stick to clear label formats and consistent colors

  • Avoid overloading the chart with too many series

Column ECharts make it easy to turn complex datasets into clear, interactive visual stories. With just a few steps, you can design impactful dashboards that bring your data to life.
